Quickstart for developers
Create an API key, find a skill, read its input schema and run it from curl or an SDK in five minutes.
Run your first hosted skill from code in five minutes: create a key, find a skill, read its input schema, and call it.
#1. Create an API key
Sign in, open Account → Agent connections → API keys, and create a key. Copy the secret immediately; it is shown only once.
export SKILLGILD_API_KEY="sg_live_…"Keys start with sg_live_ and can run skills. They expire after 90 days by default, and each account can have five active keys.
#2. Find a skill
The catalog is public, so this call needs no key:
curl "https://api.skillgild.com/v1/skills?q=accessibility&limit=5"Each item includes the slug you'll call, its access_tier, its free_runs_per_month and its input_schema.
#3. Read the input schema
curl "https://api.skillgild.com/v1/skills/accessibility-audit"{
"data": {
"slug": "accessibility-audit",
"access_tier": "free",
"free_runs_per_month": 25,
"current_version": "1.2.0",
"input_schema": {
"type": "object",
"required": ["prompt"],
"properties": { "prompt": { "type": "string" } }
}
}
}Send every required field, with the declared types.
#4. Run it
curl -X POST "https://api.skillgild.com/v1/skills/accessibility-audit/run" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SKILLGILD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen | tr 'A-Z' 'a-z')" \
-d '{"input":{"prompt":"Audit this signup form: unlabeled email field, red-only error state."}}'{
"data": {
"execution_id": "6f1d2c3b-8a9e-4f70-b1c2-d3e4f5a6b7c8",
"skill_slug": "accessibility-audit",
"version": "1.2.0",
"output": "## Findings\n1. **Missing label**: …",
"usage": { "used": 1, "limit": 25, "reset_at": "2026-11-01T00:00:00Z", "access_tier": "free" }
}
}output is the result as a string. usage tells you how much of this month's allowance is left.
#5. Handle the common errors
Every error has the shape { "error": { "code": "…", "message": "…" } }.
Status and code |
What to do |
|---|---|
400 invalid_input |
Fix the input. The message names the field. |
401 invalid_api_key |
The key is wrong, expired or revoked. Create a new one. |
402 entitlement_required |
The skill is paid. Request access under Account → Billing. |
429 quota_exceeded |
This month's allowance is used. It resets at usage.reset_at. |
429 rate_limited |
Slow down. Wait a minute before retrying. |
409 execution_in_progress |
Your retry arrived early. Wait for Retry-After seconds, then retry with the same key. |
See Run errors for the full list.
#6. Use an SDK
import { SkillGildClient } from "@skillgild/sdk";
const client = new SkillGildClient({ apiKey: process.env.SKILLGILD_API_KEY });
const [skill] = await client.searchSkills("accessibility");
const run = await client.runSkill(skill.slug, { prompt: "Audit this signup form" }, {
idempotencyKey: crypto.randomUUID(),
});
console.log(run.output);Python and Go clients work the same way. See the SDK reference.
