This page defines the building blocks of SkillGild. When a name is shown in code, it is the exact field or value the API uses.

#Skill

A skill is a listing in the marketplace. It carries the public information; the part that runs lives on its versions.

Field Values and meaning
id, slug A UUID and a URL-safe name. Either one works anywhere the API asks for {id-or-slug}.
name, description The public name and a short description.
status draft, in_review, published, suspended, archived. Only published skills appear in the catalog and can run.
visibility public skills are listed in the catalog. unlisted skills are reachable by direct link but not listed. private skills are not shown publicly.
distribution_mode hosted_protected keeps the implementation private on SkillGild. hosted_public also runs on SkillGild.
access_tier free or paid.
price_amount_minor, price_currency The price in minor units, for example 1500 and USD for $15.00. Free skills always have a price of 0.
free_runs_per_month How many runs each person gets per month. 25 unless the skill sets its own allowance.
Category, tags, collections Where the skill appears in the marketplace.

#Skill lifecycle

draft ──submit──▶ in_review ──approve──▶ published ──▶ suspended / archived
  ▲ │
  └─changes requested─┘

A published skill can receive new versions. While a new version is in review, the current published version keeps serving runs.

#Version

A version is a release of a skill. Once published, it doesn't change.

Field Meaning
version A semantic version such as 0.1.0 or 1.2.0-beta.1.
runtime_type How the version runs. Skills today are prompt_pipeline skills.
input_schema The public JSON Schema for run input. Shown on the skill page and returned by the API.
output_schema Describes the intended output. Run output is always returned as a string.
release_notes Up to 5,000 characters.
review_status draft, in_review, changes_requested, published.
published_at When the version went live. The most recently published version is the one that runs.

#Private config

Each version has its own private config: the skill's system_prompt, between 1 and 262,144 bytes. It is:

  • encrypted before it is stored;
  • write-only: SkillGild only ever reports whether it is set and when it last changed;
  • editable only while its version is an unpublished draft;
  • decrypted only after a run has passed authentication, access, allowance and reservation checks, and every access is audited.

At run time, SkillGild adds a non-disclosure policy to the prompt and treats the caller's input strictly as data. See What the model receives.

#Creator

A creator is a public publishing profile linked to your account, with a slug, a display_name and a status (pending, active or suspended). You become a creator when your creator application is approved. Only active creators can create skills, versions and prompts.

#Account

You sign in to SkillGild with Google or GitHub. Your account can run skills as long as it is active.

#Agents and connected devices

Your agent, whether Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or any other MCP client, runs on your machine. It reaches SkillGild through the local skillgild mcp server. SkillGild doesn't host or manage agents themselves.

What SkillGild does track is each connected device: one record for every successful skillgild login. Each device has its own API key. Revoking the device from your account, or running skillgild logout, disables that key immediately.

Agent skillgild install --agent value Where the skill is installed
Shared and Codex shared (default) or codex ~/.agents/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md
Claude Code claude-code ~/.claude/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md
Cursor cursor ~/.cursor/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md
Gemini CLI gemini-cli ~/.gemini/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md

#Execution

An execution is one run of a skill. It records what ran, for whom and how it ended, never your input or the output.

Field Meaning
execution_id Returned with every run result and in webhooks.
Skill, version and user What ran, which version, and for whom.
status running, then completed, failed or timed_out.

#Allowances and entitlements

Runs are counted per person, per skill, per calendar month in UTC. Counts reset at 00:00 UTC on the 1st.

  • Free skills include a monthly allowance of free runs, 25 unless the skill sets its own.
  • Paid skills need an active entitlement, held either by you or by an organization you belong to. An entitlement can set a monthly run limit; without one, runs are unlimited.
  • Each run is reserved before the model is called and counted only when it succeeds. Failed runs never count.

#API keys

Property Value
Format sg_live_ followed by 64 hex characters
Storage SkillGild stores only a hash. The full key is shown once, when you create it.
Permission runtime:execute: run skills and check your identity
Active keys per account 5, counting keys created on the web and keys created by CLI sign-ins
Expiry for keys created on the web 90 days by default, up to 365 days
Expiry for CLI device keys 365 days

#Organizations

An organization is a shared workspace with owner, admin and member roles. An organization can be given access to paid skills, optionally with a seat limit and a monthly run limit per member. Invite people with one-time invitation links that are valid for seven days.

#Marketplace

  • Categories group skills by job and can be nested.
  • Tags are labels that cut across categories.
  • Collections are curated, ordered sets of skills picked by the SkillGild team.
  • Featured skills and collections are highlighted on the homepage.
