Cookie Policy
Every cookie SkillGild sets, what it does and how long it lasts.
At a glance
- Browsing signed out sets no cookies at all.
- The cookies we do set exist only to sign you in and keep that session secure.
- No advertising, profiling or tracking cookies, and our analytics are cookieless.
- Nothing here needs consent, so there is no banner to dismiss.
This summary is for orientation only. The numbered sections below are the terms that apply.
The short version
SkillGild sets cookies for one purpose: to sign you in and keep you signed in safely. We set no advertising, profiling or tracking cookies, and no cookie is used to build a profile of you or to follow you across other sites.
If you only browse the catalogue without signing in, SkillGild sets no cookies at all. Cookies begin only when you start a sign-in.
Cookies we set
All of the cookies below are strictly necessary: without them you cannot sign in or stay signed in. Each one is HttpOnly, so page scripts cannot read it, and SameSite=Lax, so it is not sent on cross-site requests. On skillgild.dev they are also marked Secure and carry a __Secure- name prefix, which instructs the browser to refuse them over plain HTTP.
better-auth.session_token— identifies your signed-in session. This is the cookie that keeps you logged in. Expires after 30 days, or immediately when you sign out.better-auth.session_data— a short-lived signed copy of your session so that most page loads do not need a database lookup. Expires after 5 minutes.better-auth.account_data— the same short-lived cache for basic account details. Expires after 5 minutes.better-auth.dont_remember— records that you asked not to stay signed in, so the session ends with your browser. Expires when you close the browser.better-auth.state— a one-time value that ties a Google or GitHub sign-in back to the browser that started it, which is what stops an attacker completing a sign-in on your behalf. Expires after 5 minutes.
What we do not use
We set no advertising, retargeting, social or profiling cookies, and we run no third-party analytics that relies on cookies. Nothing described here is used to track you across other websites, and we do not sell or share any of it with data brokers.
We do measure page views and page performance using Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Both are cookieless: they record aggregate measurements such as page, referrer, country, device type and loading speed, and they do not set a cookie or an identifier that follows you between sites.
Browser storage we use instead
Some preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. Local storage is never transmitted to our servers — it stays on your device and is readable only by skillgild.dev.
- Your light or dark theme choice, so the page renders in the right theme before the first paint.
- Whether you have completed the welcome questions in your account, so they are not shown again.
Clearing site data for skillgild.dev removes these at any time, with no effect beyond losing those preferences.
Why you are not asked to accept cookies
Consent is required for cookies that are not necessary to deliver a service you asked for. Every cookie described above is strictly necessary for authentication, and our measurement tools do not use cookies, so there is nothing here that requires consent and no banner to click through.
If we ever introduce a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent before setting it, and update this page and our Privacy Policy first.
Managing cookies
You can delete cookies or block them entirely in your browser settings, and you can sign out at any time to clear your session cookie. Because the cookies we set are the ones that carry your session, blocking them means you will not be able to sign in or stay signed in — the catalogue and documentation remain fully readable while signed out.
You can also review and revoke connected devices and API keys from your account, which ends access independently of anything stored in your browser.
Changes and contact
If the cookies we use change, we will update this page and move the date shown at the top. Material changes will also be reflected in our Privacy Policy.
